Hospitalist Medicine
If you are a patient hospitalized at Unity Hospital, a special group of physicians within Columbia Park Medical Group, called hospitalists, will provide your hospital care. The information below explains what hospitalists do and how they can improve your medical care while you are hospitalized.
What is hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a physician who has dedicated their practice to caring for patients who are hospitalized. They work closely with you, your family members, your clinic physician, specialists, and other hospital departments to provide high quality, effective hospital care.
Columbia Park Medical Group hospitalists are board certified in internal medicine and several of them have additional training in critical care medicine. Our hospitalists have years of experience in caring for critically ill patients in the hospital.
How does the hospitalist program work?
If you are admitted to Unity Hospital, your physician will contact our hospitalists who will assume your care during your stay.
The hospitalists will manage your care while you are hospitalized. They will coordinate and consult with other specialists, closely monitoring your progress, and staying in close touch with you and your family.

Columbia Park Medical Group provides hospitalist coverage 24 hours per day/7 days a week. Our hospitalists visit patients throughout the day to monitor progress, review test results, and order treatments.
How does the hospitalist program improve my health care?
Columbia Park Medical Group implemented its hospitalist program to provide optimal hospital care. In fact, studies show that hospital care is better for patients when provided by physicians specializing in hospital-based care.
By eliminating the need for physicians to move back and forth between the clinic and the hospital, the hospitalist program allows your clinic physician to provide better access and availability to you and other patients in the clinic.
How does the hospitalist work with my doctor?
When you are discharged from the hospital, all admission, consults, discharge summaries, laboratory results, and imaging studies are available to your clinic physician. At discharge the hospitalist will also communicate with your clinic physician to review your hospital course and follow-up care plans. This ensures a smooth transition of your care back to your clinic doctor.
What happens when I leave the hospital?
Upon your discharge from the hospital, your clinic physician will resume your care. Any questions or concerns after discharge from the hospital should be directed to your clinic physician.
We wish you good health and hope that you will not need to be hospitalized. If you do, rest assured that our priority is to respond to your health-care needs and provide you with the best care possible
