Insurance Regulations and Billing

As you know, most insurance companies have very specific regulations about billing for healthcare services. As your health care provider, Columbia Park Medical Group is obligated to follow those regulations in how we report services provided to you. All physician/providers must report services using a variety of codes. These codes will tell the insurance company what was done and why.

Routine and preventive services are a way for your physician to monitor your current health status or detect early signs of disease. It is not uncommon for patients in the course of a routine or preventive visit to also receive treatment for a problem. When this occurs, both services must be reported to the insurance company.

Columbia Park Medical Group also provides services that are never covered by insurance. Those services will be billed directly to you, the patient. In some instances you will be asked to sign a form called an Advanced Beneficiary Notice. This notice is used to inform our patients when we have reason to believe that a service may not be covered under a particular circumstance and what you may have to assume payment responsibility for when insurance does not cover.

It is important for you to understand your insurance coverage. Because there are thousands of different insurance companies and plans, each with rules and regulations specific to the plan, it is impossible for Columbia Park Medical Group to know every patient’s coverage. Please be sure that you are familiar with what your insurance plan does and does not cover. This will prevent delays in payment or denial of services.
